🏡 Upcoming Trip to the VFW National Home – October 2024

 

Boone County VFW Post 280 is proud to announce the upcoming trip to the VFW National Home for Children this October. This special journey offers a chance to witness firsthand the impact of the programs our Post and its member's support.

📅 Dates: October 24th-26th

📍 Location: Eaton Rapids, Michigan

🎯 Purpose: Build connections, honor traditions, and explore how we can continue supporting veterans' families through the National Home's services.

👥 Who Can Attend: All interested members and families are welcome. Transportation and lodging details below


This visit is more than a field trip—it’s an opportunity to deepen our mission and reflect on the legacy of service that defines VFW Post 280.

Events for the Month of July 2025 
 
The officers met on Monday, July 7th at 1800 hours to discuss plans for Boone County VFW Post 280 and the Auxiliary.  
 
Wednesday, July 9th - Military Mornings @ Truman's Bar and Grill starting at 0730
 
Friday, July 11th - The Post is cooking for Friday Night Poker from 1700 to 2100.  If you are able to assist with serving it would be appreciated.  they are serving Hamburgers and Hot Dogs for the meal.  Biggest help would be around the break at 2000. 
 
Saturday, July 12th - Blacktop Harley Davidson is hosting their Grill & Chill.  We would love to have members of Post 280 and the Auxiliary to be a part of this event from 1100 to 1400.  All proceeds will be donated to VFW Post 280 to assist in our efforts in helping veterans in the community.  More information is below:
 
 
 
 
Saturday, July 12th - Officers of Post 280 and Auxiliary will be at the quarterly District 2 Meeting starting at 1000.  They will be at the School of Instruction (SOI) training.  This training will explain to the newly elected officers of each Post what criteria must be met for the new fiscal year in order to qualify for All State and All American.
 
Monday, July 14th - Monthly Meeting at 3669 Legion Ln.  Social hour starts at 1700 hours.  Guest speaker from Ronald McDonald House followed by a joint meeting between the Post and Auxiliary.  Lee's Chicken will be catered in.  We ask that members bring a side dish and drinks.
 
Tuesday, July 15th to Saturday, July 19th Post 280 and the Auxiliary will have their tent set up.  For more information, go to the HOME page and click on the link located in the slider.
 
Family Fun Days - This has been re-scheduled for Spring of 2026.  There is a conflict with the September 27th date due to University of Missouri Tigers hosting UMASS for their homecoming game.  We will determine the date in a few weeks and will keep everyone posted.
 
Website Development - Several exciting items are coming to the website in the next few months.  Post 280 and the Auxiliary has started a campaign to obtain sponsors for the website.  The Webmaster will go more into detail on the campaign at the next meeting.  Many will already see, we have added a few new "BANNERS" at the bottom of the page.  More on this later....
 
We also discussed other events that are coming up throughout the year.  That information will be placed in the Member Portal for review.  You will also see the information on the monthly announcement.  
 
We appreciate all the hard work and dedication from everyone at the Post and Auxiliary.  Without members like you, we could not make all these changes and activities happen.  We hope to see all of you on July 14th for the monthly meeting.

A satirical reflection by Author/Artist Phil Fehrenbacher

Phil enlisted in the Army in 1965 where you served for years in Vietnam.  He became a graphic designer and has worked for the state of Oregon for 26 years.  He retired in 2003 and started the Cartoon "In-Country".  The cartoons reflect his experiences during his tour of duty in South Vietnam.
